One Night Only

The A.I.M.S. Gala (aka. One Night Only)
Directed: Robert Garofalo
Running Time: 75 (+45) min   Color   Date: 1988

Bill Wyman formed A.I.M.S. (Ambitions, Ideas, Motivation, Success) as a project to give up and coming bands a chance to record and perform along with some of the best recording artists. To select the most deserving bands, Wyman held a Europe wide 'Battle Of The Bands' series, the finalists from which were invited to play at the Royal Albert Hall at the A.I.M.S. Gala. The original one hour program, was broadcast on BBC TV, and later released on video, featuring performances by Ron Wood, Elvis Costello, Chrissie Hynde, Chris Rea, Eddy Grant, Phil Collins, Ian Dury, Terrence Trent D´Arby and more

Bill Wyman organized a benefit concert at London's Royal Albert Hall to not only benefit The Great Ormond Street Hospital in London but to give exposure to local bands in England. Five of the top bands played the concert followed by a lot of Wyman's well-known friends who performed in some -often unusual combinations. There are two parts to the program. The first is the Superstar section which runs about 75 minutes, and it starts off with Elvis Costello and the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde performing duet versions. Next up is Chris Rea and then comes what is billed as The All-Star Band. In addition to Wyman, there is Ronnie Wood, Eddy Grant, Ian Dury and Phil Collins. The band works it's way through standards like "Johnnie B. Goode", "Tallahassee Lassie", "It's All Over Now" and "Honky Tonk Women".
As a "Special Feature" we are presented with 45 minutes of footage - introduced by Wyman - of the five bands who won the competition.
